Changing lifestyle is the key to maintaining weight-loss

I've never really been into pills and potions to deal with problems I know had to do with me and my lifestyle. When it came to giving up smoking, I realised that when I wanted to truly give up I could. I decided to avoid patches and other such crutches. So I went cold turkey.

I found this article interesting: The constant struggle to lose weight

Similarly when it came to weight-loss I knew that I didn't want to do any yo-yoing. I don't want to go through the same thing again. This meant changing the lifestyle. Any diet should require you to change your lifestyle so that you maintain what you have lost. This is why pills and potions are not the solution. They may help one lose weight but going back to the bad old habits - which got you fat in the first place - will only making you regain everything.

We already know the answer. Its something we've all heard summed up in one phrase "Everything in moderation". The thing is in the wealthy nations we have plenty of food. We don't have the worry of eating one day and not the next. Most of us can afford foods that would be considered a luxury in the other parts of the world (well in some parts anything we eat is probably considered a luxury :( )

The reason most of us get fat is simple: Too many calories in and too little out. We eat the wrong stuff and the concept of moderation is ignored. It seems this has become part of our culture. We do things to excess.

You can have your cake and eat it, just remember with everything there are consequences. We are fortunate to be able to afford the whole cake, we can easily over indulge and we do. So we need to change our culture. If you buy the whole cake make sure you have many people to share it with. Spread the love, spread the calories.

I'm a foodie, I like eating tasty food. That's why I got into this mess in the first place. I don't think we should always go for the light or low fat versions of foods. I mean sometimes they taste vile. I think that we should go ahead and have some of the nice stuff but know our limits. Ensure there are checks and balances.

I think to lead a life of moderation one should have a healthy lifestyle that allows for the occasional indulgence. This will ensure that the body gets good nourishment and can also deal with the occasional sugar rush because it doesn't have to deal with it all the time.

I've gone from being a salad dodger to being a salad lover. I forgot how good these things can taste. Its now part of my diet as a fatty foods of all descriptions were before. I find that the fried chicken I used to enjoy isn't all that great after all. Its too greasy and very high in salt.

My change of lifestyle has had an impact on my family. Hopefully we will continue into the territory of healthy living and enjoy it.
